240 Launches in the red hot summer sun. This year was not a record breaker, but then it was 17 degrees at 4am and it only got hotter.

The day started at 3.30am and after setting up the airfield and a packed morning briefing the first launch was at around 10 minutes past five.

With little or no breeze the temperature must have reached nearly 30 degrees.

We were at nearly 100 launches by the time 625 arrived on the airfield and with the two schools on the airfield the launch rate slowed slightly. After the lunchtime change over the launches kept ticking over until 625 finished for the day and it was back to full speed.

The exact numbers are still to be calculated – but over 240 launches!

A fantastic effort by everyone involved from the staff at 621, the squadron staff looking after the cadets overnight, to all of the cadets who worked tirelessly in the hot conditions.
