This years Easter course started bathed in blue sky and light winds. With a shortage of accommodation, the cadets couldn’t stay Saturday or Sunday night. The more local cadets travelled each day, those from further afield started on Monday. This worked well, allowing some instructors to be made current over the weekend, ready for the weekdays.
Progress was good and all the cadets on the course appeared to be achieving well. With plans for a course meal on Thursday night – we pushed on a bit on Wednesday – and several of the students were looking close.
Efforts were rewarded early on Thursday with Junior Corporal Peter Barnes achieving his Gliding Scholarship first solo flight (Pictured below with his checking instructor Flt Lt Nick Blake just after).
Sadly, with another student on solo checks, we received a telephone call from Central Gliding School informing us of a ‘pause’ in Air Cadet gliding and that all aircraft were to be returned to the hanger. This marked the end to the 2014 Easter Course. 621 VGS hopes to be back flying as soon as we are allowed, and will do all we can to assist the students in completing their Scholarships.
