On Sunday 621 VGS staff displayed a Viking at Queens Square in Bristol for Armed Forces Day 2014. The Viking was one if the main attractions and we were able to open up the aircraft for members if the public to see inside. Air Cadets from Bristol Squadrons, with staff from 621 VGS, formed the only RAF presence and did a fantastic job of showing the public just how professional our organisation is.
Squadron Leader Maurice Thompson RAF VR(T), Wing Gliding Liaison Officer for Bristol and Gloucester Wing, was awarded an MBE in the Her Majesty the Queens Birthday Honours List 2014.
With Air Cadet gliding still “Paused” the hanger was buzzing with activity on Saturday.
A visit from Cpl Davies, RAF Brize Norton MT Training & Licencing, allowed several members of staff to get their FMT600’s. An FMT600 allows them to drive the squadron vehicles. We should thank Cpl Davies, a weekend visit makes it much easier for us.
CGI Gavin Summerell did a great deal of local MT Training including introducing a few more staff to the winch.
We also loaded a T21 into a trailer ready to be transported to RAF Syerston for the IDT week.
